ART AT HOME/ Vol. V

ART AT HOME/ Vol. V

INTERIORS I Bucharest

The owners of this apartment envisioned a home with the atmosphere of an art gallery—one where every artwork and collectible would be given the space and light it deserved. Their ambition was to bring together collectible objects, paintings acquired at auction and carefully selected mid-century vintage furniture within an interior that felt both cohesive and effortlessly elegant. Architects Alexandra Mera and Valentin Clapan of Brick by Brick Architecture transformed that vision into reality.

The apartment is organised around two clearly defined zones: the day area, comprising the living room and kitchen, and the private quarters, which include the principal bedroom and the child's room. When the architects began the project, the apartment was still unfinished, with neither the electrical nor plumbing installations fully completed. Both were reconfigured to support the new interior concept, allowing the furniture and the art collection to be integrated naturally into the architecture.

The living area was entirely reorganised to accommodate a discreetly concealed pantry alongside an enclosed storage room requested by the owners. At the entrance, a small transitional vestibule was introduced, creating a gentle progression between the hallway and the living space while lending the interior a greater sense of balance.

The owners' art collection became the project's defining point of departure, shaping not only the rhythm of the interior but also its material palette and carefully considered lighting scheme.

In the living room, a painting by Romanian artist Roman Tolici forms the visual anchor of the space, establishing a dialogue with the warm tones of the oak veneer that runs throughout the interior. A generously scaled sofa invites moments of rest and contemplation, while the architectural lighting has been carefully orchestrated to enhance both the artworks and the atmosphere they inhabit.

The furniture selection reflects the same curatorial approach, combining mid-century vintage pieces with contemporary designs sourced from The Edit and CMA Atelier to achieve a refined balance between authenticity and contemporary elegance.

The principal bedroom, together with its walk-in wardrobe and en-suite bathroom, unfolds as a coherent sequence defined by oak veneer finishes that lend warmth, depth and visual continuity. Directional spotlights and decorative lighting create an intimate ambience, while the soft carpeting reinforces the sense of comfort and quiet refinement.
